In the last 9.5 years, I have listed many vehicles, some with steel bodies and some with fiberglass bodies STEEL vs. GLASS…
Some people like the old steel bodies – they are REAL – they are from the PAST “A Bygone Era”. They come off the assembly line at a major car manufacturer, three-quarters of a century or more, and are made to last all these years. Some of them have been restored to their original condition and others are chopped, cut, re-welded, reformed into hot rods, or customs.
Over the last 30 years or so there is a new direction with fiberglass bodies. There are new parts readily available and they look just as good as the original factory steel bodies. The Shelby Replica Cobra is a very good example of a fiberglass body that works well.
A lot of people like the steel body because they can weld on different panels and work with the steel. On the other hand, a lot of people rather work with a brand new fiberglass body. They can do a lot of different things with fiberglass panels and fiberglass body parts.
It is getting harder to find and work on steel bodies in good shape. You are limited to certain years of cars that are reproduced in fiberglass instead of steel.
In the past, I have worked with both steel and fiberglass bodies and I enjoyed working on both. I guess if you find a vehicle you like the looks, the performance, the drive – what difference should it make? Just enjoy the vehicle and have fun with it!
Keep Them Rolling!
